vanity3000 is a vanity scene that satirizes the moralization of beauty practices and their re-branding as ‘self-optimization.’

Designed, built, and displayed as my Master of Fine Arts in Industrial Design thesis project, this tableau scene is composed of a chair, a lamp and mirror apparatus, and a rug. Each piece proposes a different approach to satire through design.

The vanity is a fascinating typology with a strong social significance. What does it say that another term for “dressing table” is a cuttingly rude descriptor?
