Sedimentary Spoon Rests
The original inspiration for this project came from the question - why do most spoon rests look like spoons? What other forms could they take?
Inspired by the sedimentary, stratified canyons out west, the blanks were made with laminated oak, red oak, and maple layers.
The second and improved iteration of this design features a bigger scoop with a shallower cove and general silhouette refinements. The scoops were freehand routed with a plunge router and finished by hand using a die grinder.
